110V in James Cook

Hi all

I'm currently in Brazil and I realized, that in here they have 110V.

Original battery charger and fridge are not working :(

I believe I have to buy a 110V to 220V transformer.
Is this correct?

If so, how many watts should it have to work battery charger and fridge?

Hola Cesar,

I don't know how many Amperes and watts these older absorber type fridges are consuming in the hot brazilian summer but I guess the car will not need more than a 300-500 watts transformer.

I would take a look at the amps rating of the 12V fuse of the fridge and multiply the amps reading with 12V.
This are the watts the fridge is drawing from the battery when it is running on DC.

And take a look at the batterycharger.
There should be a writing with the amps/watts on the casing or a fuse with a Amperes writing.

In Brazil the frequency of the AC is 60Hz like in the USA, not 50 Hz like in Argentina and Europe.
This might be an issue too.

You could use a portable charger like "Ctek" with 110V/60 Hz as well and run the fridge on DC.

Sorry for the delay.

I decided not to buy the ac transformer for now. If we decide to stay in Brazil much longer I will.

By the way. 2 things related to what you mentioned:
- according to fridge's original manual, it consumes 85 Watts at 220 V as well as 12 V. I believe this is at max.
- from what I've read, if you run a 60 Hz in a 50 Hz appliance, it will run faster. In this case I guess it will overheat a bit more. Not sure what's the consequence of this.
