Mittlerweile habe ich eine 2KW verbaut und nach einigen Tests behaupte ich dass dies dicke ausreicht im James Cook. Klar war es noch nicht so richtig kalt, aber auch in der kleinsten Stufe wird es schnell fast schon zu warm. Ich erhitze aus Sicherheitsgründen die Raumluft und keine Frischluft von außen. Hauptgrund gegen eine 4KW Heizung war für mich das Argument, dass die Heizung dann meist nur auf kleinster Stufe läuft und verrußt. Sie soll regelmäßig auch auf Volllast laufen zum freibrennen.

Hallo! Solange man im Plus - Temperaturbereich verbleibt, stimmt das! Ansonsten fûr kalte Umgebungen im Minusbereich ist es besser wenn man noch Reserven hat. Bei mir werkelt seit einigen Jahren die Webasto Air Top EVO 3900. Diese regelt zwischen 1,5 bis 3,9 kW und ich lasse sie eigentlich immer auf der Eco Stufe arbeiten. Was mir aufgefallen ist: Im letzten Jahr habe ich meinen Innenraum aufwendig isoliert und selbst bei Außentemperaturen von 3 ° C wird es eigentlich zu warm auch wenn die Heizung auf kleinster Stufe läuft. Klar, man regelt am Thermostat seine Wohlfühltemperatur ein und die Heizung geht automatisch An und Aus. Durch die Isolierung hält die Wärme sich auch lange. Ich bin aber kein Freund von andauernden Starts und ich würde am liebsten die Hysterese umprogrammieren. Aber lieber Wärme im Überschuss als eine ,,ungemütliche Bude'' im Winter. Gruß Jürgen

I have an additionnal airtop 4kW under the passenger seat.( NCV3)
By windy -5° outside it is perfect.
I choose 4kW ( vs 2kW ) because at the same level of power ;
- the electrical consumption is lower
- the noise is lower.

To avoid any problem with soot, I let it works sometime full power 15minutes.

I don't have any regret.

as indication :

Before my departure to Belgian Eifel country ( full of snow , now ) this week end, I preheated my van on Fryday.
I let an electrical heater, 1400W inside the van, more than 24h working full power.
The external temperature was +/- 0° , no wind ( that's important ).
The internal temperature was at the beginning 4° and at the end 12°
It means 1400W is really too short.


and, during the weekend, by -4° to 0° external; to maintain 23° internal , the Airtronic 4kW worked between 1/4 and 1/2 of the maximum power.

I just spent a day with 1°-3°directly at a windy surfspot and with proper window isolation (which makes the most difference imho) my 2KW heater was running mostly in the lowest mode. Surely snow etc. is still a different thing but I still believe 2KW is sufficient if extreme wintercamping is not the main priority. When my JC is heated up, it somehow doesn't really feel like its loosing heat very fast, as I said, isolating the front cabin windows and having thick carpets seems to make a huge difference.

About your isolation : is it an external solution ; Do it yourself or bought ? It certainly helps a lot. I only have a thin inside low cost sheet of mixed aluminium and insulated material.

Did you windsurf this week end ? if yes, congratulation. My latest session in North See ( Netherland ) was mid of december by 10°.

You can achieve really good insulation with the original Westfalia sleeping mats. 4 layers, 2 x aluminum foil / 2 x felt etc.
