Greetings from the UK. I am installing an electric sliding step ( Thule omnistep) and would like to fit the in/out switch on the B pillar trim behind the passenger seat. Can anybody tell me how to remove that please?

Also I would like to wire the step so that it also retracts automatically when the engine is started. There is a Thule kit for that which uses a relay and a capacitor. It looks as if the electrical feed comes from the ignition switch. Can anyone suggest please the best place to get the 12v feed for this so that as the engine is started the relay is energised to retract the step ?

Hallo.
Du musst den Sicherheitsgurt unten abschrauben.
Dann die Türdichtungen abziehen. Nun kannst du die Verkleidung vorziehen. Das Plastik der Trittstufe drückst du etwas mit einem Kunststoffkeil zur Seite.
Wenn das nicht geht, muss der Beifahrersitz und die Trittstufe ausgebaut werden.

Vorsicht am Sicherheitsgurt oben. Die Halterung ist nur gesteckt !!!!!!!!. Auf keinen Fall das Kabel vom Gurtstraffer abziehen !!

Das Relais und den Kondensator habe ich auch an 12 Volt Zündplus geklemmt.

Die Trittstufe habe ich direkt an das Mercedes Bordnetz angeschlossen. Also Dauerplus Kl.30 und Zündpluss Kl.15. Diese findest du im Kasten unter dem Fahrersitz.

I have now removed enough of the b pillar trim to look behind it. There is not that much clearance. I will need to drill a 48mm hole in the trim itself for the switch but wonder if I will also need to drill such a hole as well in the metal b pillar. If so then where to drill? To ensure that there is enough clearance behind the switch for the cable terminals. Can Epeg or anyone else help please. Thank you. Adrian

Der Montageort vom Schalter sollte soweit wie möglich am Rand (nach Innen) der Verkleidung sein. Dort ist am meisten Platz.

Du hast wahrscheinlich einen runden Schalter ??? 48mm ist zu groß. Das wird sehr eng werden. . Kauf dir einen kleineren Schalter.

Thanks Epeg. My switch -omnistep - is round and will be too big. So I need to find a switch like yours. I can never remember the difference between soft, dpdt, momentary etc. So could you treat me like an electrical idiot and tell me what sort of rocker switch I need? I will be using relay to retract the step when the ignition is switched on and will wire in a capacitor to that circuit to ensure the step fully retracts.
What would I do without this forum - despite the language difficulties for me! Thanks.

Es ist ein Taster 4. Polig ?? Schließend. Wie man ihn nennt weiß ich leider nicht. Aber hier im Forum gibt es Elektroprofis die es bestimmt wissen.

Thanks Epeg. I have done some research since your email and I think a double changeover switch for a Project 2000 electric step should work. The photos of it look v similar to your own switch. So I have ordered one of those and will post in the forum if it works ok. Thank you. Adrian
