Re-fillable gas system

Beitrag von RichardThe3rd » 25.05.2016 18:08

Here are details of my re-fillable lpg gas system. I did not want the problem of having to change cylinders and systems whilst travelling. (Connections can have different designs in different countries))
I have found that my chosen system works very well. I can also use the original German regulator that came with the van, and the whole thing looks neat. (For the inexperienced, the regulator connects the bottles to the vans gas system).

The installation.

1.I had 2 x 6kg re-fillable cylinders installed. (11kg tanks were too big to fit)

2.I had an lpg filler bracket fitted under the rear bumper. This seemed the best place because it looks very descreet, does not damage the van bodywork in any way, provides a strong mounting point and is the shortest path for the filler hose to the gas tanks.

3. I was provided with a small sized kit of 3 brass adaptors that allow me to fill up from lpg providers anywhere in Europe. These were needed as different Countries can have slightly different filler connector designs. They are stored in my glove box.

The two cylinders themselves are only connected together for the re-filling side of things. Both cylinders are filled together which is easier and more descreet at the filling station. Far better than messing around having to disconnect the first and connect the second tank seperately.

When a cylinder eventually becomes empty however, It was cheaper to have it plumbed in so that I manually have to disconnect the regulator from the first bottle, and connect it to the second cylinder rather than have them linked together. I preferred this anyway, as i would rather know when a cylinder runs out. It allows me to keep a note of when i need to start looking for a re-fill station rather than unknowingly using both tanks up and running out of gas without realising.

The gas does last a very long time. I was away for 3 months, and still only on my first tank.

The company I used for this system was based in North Yorkshire, England. They were a long drive away from me, but well worth it. I would recommend them to UK owners for both service and price, even if you have to travel several hours to get there, as I did. ( No, I do not own the company or have any vested interest in their success :))

Finally here are some pictures of the finished installation.

Very neat solution. It's on my list to do!
