Help dismantling driver’s swivel seat
Help dismantling driver’s swivel seat
Greetings from the U.K. Tinkering during Lockdown, I have removed the driver's seat to attempt to make it swivel more easily. Has anyone dismantled the swivel? I have removed the seat itself from the swivel unit and now want to dismantle the unit to lubricate it etc. However, I am afraid that if I remove all the nuts etc there will be springs etc inside which will mean I can’t put it back together again! So any help from someone who has dismantled the swivel unit would be appreciated. Adrian
Re: Help dismantling driver’s swivel seat
I can now answer my own question!
I removed the 8 Allen bolts underneath the swivel unit and they held in place a metal plate and two spacer strips under that. That reveals the swivel unit itself. The unit turns out to be sealed so no dismantling is possible. So I then sprayed and squirted lots of silicone into every available hole and gap. I did this over a prolonged period while rotating the swivel in every direction. When I reinstalled everything back in the van, the seat now swivels much more easily. Still a little difficult to start the rotation but that is start-up friction. So it was worth getting the seat out of the van. Because it is so heavy I found it easiest to unbolt the seat from the swivel underneath it (6 bolts) and remove the seat. Then to unbolt the swivel and the attached plate for the runners (another 6 bolts) Also very heavy. But doing it that way meant I could do it alone without another helper. I hope this helps anyone else with the problem. Adrian.
