what is the 6 pin connector for?

Beitrag von pjstock » 25.03.2025 20:27

well, it looked like Spring. but light snow and 0C temperatures have returned and so JC adventuring and tinkering is back on hold

I have an electrician (who also happens to live in a wohnmobil year round apparently) coming tomorrow to assess the electrical situation with the van
I'll report on all that seperately.

But I am thinking about replacing the 230v battery charger with a 115v North American version

But doing so I would lose this 6 pin connection on the original Westfalia battery charger.

can anyone tell me what the connector is for? what it does?

I thought that it feed data to the display screen up front. but with the 6 pins disconnected, it still seems to light up.

If i lose these 6 pins, what will I lose functionally.?

Peter

that is FANTASTIC
so helpful.

and reading the Data Sheet it would appear that it can take Input from 110v to 230v

even though the label on my battery charger says "AC In 230v 50-60hz 1.4A"

if this can take 110v Input it would save me an enormous amount of trouble (finding step up transformers, or swapping the battery charger)

I guess I could cross my fingers, plug it and hope for the best. (but I am not that brave)

I'm not sure my battery charger is the same as that described in the data sheet
it looks exactly the same but mine reads: "Geschaltet fur .... 230v" (Switched To... 230V)

I don't know if that means it is exclusively for 230V now or if it would also still take 110V

and I certainly do not know enough (anything) about electronics to see where the Switching would happen.

Why would you lose 6 pin functionality if there are 110V-220V chargers on the market that are 100% compatible with your system?

There were different models of the original chargers, like I mentioned before my old one was meant only for 230V, the newer one I have now, manufactured in 2016 for Nugget, has the option of drawing power from 110V and 230V. There is a sticker on mine that confirms it.
The instruction is dated 08/2007 which means its not for T1N James Cook model.

Before plugging in I would research the part number on yours to confirm the model.

that's exactly what I need. !!

it's just that I don't think they are available in North America. (we are, I say, 50 years behind Europe in terms of wohnmobil technology and accessories)

But I'll start looking in Europe.

(can you suggest a supplier?)

But I'll start with Fraron.de

Well, that was easy.

Now, I just hope they will ship to North America.

Hmmm, Kanada is not in their list of Ship To countries. but I hope they will make an exception If I write and ask

so far Fraron does not want to ship to Canada.
but I am sure a JC Forum member here would accept delivery and forward it to me.

Yes, have it sent to someone in Germany and forward it to you.
Shouldn't be a problem.
