the other day my remote control would not close the sunroof

now, one of the battery contacts inside has broken and is being in contact with a small piece of metal.
after checking the batteries and the remote contacts, and trying again, the roof closed.

However, it made me think that I should understand how to close this roof manually.

the manual says to remove the trim surround and there should be a manual crank hidden up there.

do I remove the entire surround? highlighted in my photo in green?

Hinter dieser Abdeckung ist die Notkurbel, mit der man das Fenster schließen kann, wenn sonst nichts mehr geht. Ich vermute, der Vorbesitzer hat dass Loch reingemacht, dass nicht die ganze Blende abgeschraubt werden muss. Der Schalter wird wohl eine Überbrückung des Regensensors sein.

ahhh that reminds me now.
the previous owner did mention that he planned to install a cutoff switch to bypass the rain sensor.
this might be where it was supposed to go
I'll have to investigate further

or, just leave it all alone - I touched a damp rag to the rain sensor. and Presto! it closed automatically.
I like when things work.
