2005 JC Duschwanne

Hi Richard,

Please forgive me for posting in English.

Thank you for making the measurements and providing the diagrams. I intend to order the shower pan (item 11) after verifying it is compatible with the newer Thetford C402C that I have purchased. It's base design seems to be a bit different from the older model Westfalia installed in your JC. From your measurement of 31,49" seems I should be able to make it fit.

If I can trouble you to also measure the center location of the drain - x and y as in the diagram.

With this information I would have very good idea if I need to relocate the drain pipe.

Regards

- Vince

Hi Vince,

I heard the center location of the drain this morning measured : X= 22,63 and Y= 27,16. Since I do not exactly know the NAFTA JC. I hope that the reconstruction is not too expensive.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks again for your trouble to make the drain measurement.

My measurement on the NAFTA is X=22,75 and Y=28,00. The slight differences may just be our measurement tolerance. I speculate that the NAFTA JC and JC have the same hole location on the plywood floor. At most I would just need to slightly modify the existing drain hole on the floor.

The conversion would cost about 750 to 1000 Euro. The cassette toilet is cheaper here in the US at about 475 Euro. The shower pan and the drain would be expensive due to high shipping cost from Westfalia to US.

I cannot re-use the NAFTA shower pan because it has a raised platform where the toilet rests on. You can see that in the photo. The NAFTA toilet drain the waste into a "black water" collection tank under the wet cell. Typically one must go to an RV camping facility to drain it. It is this inconvenience that I want to return to the cassette design.

The work should not be too difficult and I plan to perform it myself. The most challenging part is to remove the old shower pan. It is glued onto the plywood floor. I may have to break it into pieces to remove it.

Should you be interested in the differences between the NAFTA JC and JC there is a summary here: http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showth ... ight=nafta

Hi Vince,

By rule of thumb i measured! I think the dimensions are the same. We have installed a tank ventilation "SOG Ventilation". I do not use chemicals. So that I can dispose the cassette toilet at home.

If I have time on the weekend, I look at the webpage.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for sharing the SOG Ventilation. I saw Thetford's parts diagram for the 400 series model has a optional vent tube kit and I didn't realize it is for this. I don't plan to use chemicals and I especially hate the bad fragrance the manufacturers add to the product.

I cannot wait being able to dispose the waste at home.

Please help.

I want to begin the conversion of the toilet. I have been unsuccessful in trying to purchase the duschwanne (shower pan) from Germany to ship to me in USA. Here is the screen from my attempt purchase a year ago at Westfalia's eShop:

I am looking for a forum member in Europe to help me purchase the dushwanne and the ablaufvehtil (drain) to ship to me. I am glad to pay you with a bottle of wine or some beer for your trouble.

I have posted a blog about my project here: http://eat-drink-men-women.blogspot.com ... oilet.html

Hi,

for a 2005 model your local Mercedes-Benz dealer should be able to supply all parts.

Better still, try a Daimler-Truck partner ;)

Ludo

 Ludo,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately in the US Mercedes-Benz dealers do not service the NAFTA JC imported by Airstream. Airstream is in contract with Westfalia to service the coach portion of the NAFTA JC motor home. The MB dealers don't even service the Sprinter chassis. They are service by Dodge or Freightliner because the Sprinters are rebadged. Only recently MB starting selling Sprinters as MB  .

I have contacted Airstream dealers and they will not help me order any Westefalia parts that is not in the NAFTA version.

All,

I just want to give an update.

I found Togo Reisemobile and I telephone them this morning. The gentleman said if I send him an email detailing what I need he should be able to help. :D

At this time I will pursue this possibility.

Thanks

After invested a lot of time and effort tried to procure the right shower pan to no avail, I decided to proceed with my other option to modify the existing pan. Here is the most recent blog post on the process. :P
