I am one of many owners that have the stripped screw holes on the latch receivers on the upper wing windows. I have been wanting to make the repair a long time before the windows being blown off at highway speed. After brainstroming and resulting in a number of different ideas, as well as those used by other owners, I completed the repair with polyester resin and remnants of glass fibric.
the stripped screw holes - i have 4
the failed latch receivers used too many spacers
the good latch receivers used fewer spacers
i ground off the gelcoat around the screw holes to promote adhesion by the new resin
i stripped out the glass fibric threads from the fiberglass mat remnant
feed the glass fiber threads into the stripped screw holes
apply polyester resin
i glued the spacers together to prevent shearing
grinding the repaired surface smooth
i sanded the spacer surface and the latch reciever base to improve friction
the repaired screw holes are stronger than new - thanks to the fiberglass filaments and compatible resin
