found two pet doors

Beitrag von chase4food » 27.04.2015 01:39

While preparing my NAFTA JC for painting of the bumper fascia and the skirt of the vehicle I discovered the location of the cabin air exhaust ports. They are behind the rear bumper end caps. My James Cook friend pointed out they may be the entry point of mice he experienced many times. I inspected the port assemblies and agreed. I call them pet doors, for those like to keep mice as pets.

I set out to install a screen with small openings so the smallest mouse (accidental pets  ) cannot get through.

the pet doors are located behind the rear bumper end caps

the openings are about 0.5 x 0.75 inch

i chose to use metal screen with fine grids - can be found at hardware stores

i cut the screen to (a bit smaller than) the outline of the port assembly with 4 rectangle tabs

i glue the 4 tabs to the slots with auto body filler - and they are ready to be reinstalled back onto the vehicle

I used auto body filler as I can remove them in a later day if necessary. Epoxy would work just as well. Do be carefull not to fill the slots it too much epoxy to interfere with the plastic locking cams.

Please do note that to remove the end caps of the rear bumper, you must remove them together with the main bumper fascia. Otherwise you risk breaking the plastic interlocking tabs that connected them together.
