Moin,
I am fininishing my project for a convertible auxiliary fresh water storage tank. My design goal was to design a system that is user friendly in which one can select which of the two water tanks to draw water from. The auxiliary tank adds about 49 litres of fresh water capacity. It can also be easily removed if cargo capacity is desired. Total project cost of about $300 USD.
tank shopping
fittings shopping
initial fit check
a key component of the dual tank system
each tank has its own pump is the key to a simple dual tank system
consulting to the water system diagram - no much help there due to lack of electrical circuit schematic
experimenting with many different ideas for filling and draining
the break through ideas came with the excellent Colder PLC series quick connect fittings
a marine deck plate is fitted for accessing of the pump parts as well as serves for gravity filling if necessary
bench testing of many design ideas
old toilet waste drain (only in NAFTA JC) is to be re-used for overfill drainage
design concept bench test was a success
the assortment of Colder PLC fittings - these make the convertible design elegant and user friendly
the quick disconnect for the pump hose with the Colder PLC fittings
the main pump shut off switch is replaced to select which of the two tanks to draw water from
the new switch for - Primary, Off, Auxiliary
connectors for the auxiliary tank pump cable
modifying the steel cover under the wet cell
the tank is secured by 3 cleats and one tie-down strap for easy removal - no tool required
this is what the finished auxiliary water tank looks like
I wrote a 7-part blog posts for this project from the initial idea to final configuration of the almost finished project. http://eat-drink-men-women.blogspot.com ... art-1.html
