Just for fun information.

From poster Camp at post 66

https://sprinter-source.com/forums/inde ... 950/page-4

Owner purchased and stored away. Has a couple of owner upgrades like Mercedes badging replacing Dodge, rear door spare tire carrier (NAFTA version of James Cook has an Airstream installed Onan propane generator where original spare tire would sit). Has Translift accessory.

In USA, the NAFTA version of James Cook was built on the 2004 Dodge (Mercedes) Sprinter, sold as a 2005 Airstream Westfalia, and the last ones were apparently imported to USA in 2006 or so. So this one was sold new in 2007.

I’m offering my never used/like NEW Mercedes Sprinter Westfalia for sale:
Absolutely like new!! I’m the original owner bought it new in 2007, and never used it, 4K original miles (miles are from the dealer delivery from east coast to west coast dealer and to SLC). All Westfalia options (some only in Germany available) absolutely like new condition!! It will sleep 4 adults and has seatbelt seating for 5! Luxurious kitchen with build in fridge/freezer, microwave, sink and stove. Wet bath with inside outside shower. DVD player Tv, stereo with subwoofer, and so much more!
I just took it out of storage and had it fully serviced, including all fluids replaced, new tires (5), a new battery and master break cylinder.
Extremely rare find! Only 250 were ever imported to the US and I’m certain, there is no other like it anywhere! It is the very best available! And it is much better equipped and less expensive then the new ones. With 18’ total length, you can park it in any normal parking space. It has a tow package with 5,000lbs rating. Full spare on same OEM aluminum Mercedes rims.
$120,000 firm, serious enquirers only.

With german number plate - „OS -...“, means Osnabrück, not far away from Rheda-Wiedenbrück where Westfalia once produced it.
To register a RV with US-spec in Germany is not easy - could only be an insider from there who had access to these parts.
Or it was part of the legendary Westfalia-Museum in Wiedenbrück which was sold after insolvency...

Das ist schon ein dicker Hobel....

NAFTA (USA) versions have a Suburban propane water heater (3 gallons on earlier ones, 4 gallons on later) at the right rear. The flap or door opens for manual lighting, setting temperature, maintenance, etc. Some owners have installed an ignition switch inside the Westy.

There is no hole in the rear fiberglass top for the Truma boiler. The space behind the mirror is still there, but smaller.

The James Cook propane tanks are eliminated and a permanent Manchester propane tank is installed under the sliding door step. On NAFTA versions without the Airstream installed running boards, there is a hinged black sheetmetal cover for the propame tank.

Many NAFTA owners dislike the ugly Suburban water heater and low hanging propane tank, and prefer.the James Cook setup (if the Truma boiler is reliable).

The Onan Microlite propane generator is installed by Airstream where the factory spare tire would.be. If NAFTA owners want a spare tire, they have to buy one and buy a door mounted carrier (or remove the generator).

The NAFTA versions have a Westfalia installed Kerstner rooftop 12v air conditioner which runs off the engine alternator, the generator, or shorepower.

Hi Old West,

nur zur Info: Kannst Du uns hier in Germany vielleicht sagen, wieviel US $ der neue Wagen 2007 in USA gekostet hat.
Danke, viel Grüße über den Teich, bleibt gesund

In 2004, I think the list price was about $82,000 to $86,000 (including destination charges coast to coast). This included the Kerstner 12v air conditioner, Fiamma awning, rear door storage panels in upper window area, Tappan or Origo microwave (in compartment under utensil drawer under stove), refrigerator plastic storage containers, swoopy graphic decals, heated front seats, blackout tape between windows, NAFTA Thetford Aqua toilet and black tank, and the following Airstream installed items: Onan generator, TV/DVD player, TV antenna, telephone jack, cable jack, and extra 120 v receptacle in rear storage area.

On later ones, Westfalia deleted the heated seats and the black tape between windows, and Airstream added running boards and a kitchen cupboard grab handle, and took over installing the Fiamma awning under the Horizon awning name.

In 2007, I'd guess the list price was similar with a little more for the newer Airstream additions as the chassis was still probably a 2004 Dodge Sprinter.

In the USA, RV buyers of campervans usually try to get 10%-20% off the list price as RV list prices are exaggerated.

The Westy was poorly marketed in the USA. If large SUV buyers had known of the Airstream Westfalia, they may have purchased instead of the same-priced large SUV. One Airstream dealer said a lot of buyers were soccer moms--perfect vehicle for taking kids to games.

Gossip: Westfalia apparently had spoken with other potential partners besides Airstream. One potential partner had discussed how to market to existing VW Westfalia poptop owners.

As so few Westies are available in the USA, the Westies retain their value. Another Westy with 90,000 miles was sold (pending) in a few days, with an asking price of $60,000. Other Westies in the last few years have had asking prices of $35,000 to $55,000 range, depending on mileage. (Added Note: $65,000 to $70,000 at higher end, $35,000 at lower end for apparent poorer condition?)

25 year old Westies can be imported into the USA without all the hassles--so a few more years. Shorter period for Canada. Tourist Westies are, or course, welcome. This site's administrator has taken his newer James Cook to the USA several times and I once met a German couple in a T1N James Cook in Arizona as they were heading to Mexico.

Other USA RV manufacturers have started campervans with astronomical list prices of over $150,000.

Thus, this Westy with only 4,000 plus miles is being marketed against new campervans. Westfalia.does a better job than most American RV manufacturers. Also, later model Sprinters (2007 and later) have horribly unreliable emission systems in the USA. These emission reliability issues may have finally been solved--don't know.

Gossip: In 2004 and later, the US-German exchange rate plus Airstream's share made Westfalia apparently lose money on the 250 or so Westies sent to the USA (as well as the time and money spent modifying the James Cook for the USA market as well as USA regulations--although many USA owners would have preferred the James Cook version without the Westfalia modifications (and the Airstream modifications were poorly done).

Gossip: There were apparently many leftover kits or versions for the USA which Westfalia never installed and some were apparently sold in Germany.
