UK James Cook Owners?

Hi,

Do we have any/many owners in the UK? I see some questions in English but it would be good to know some other owners on this side of the English Channel...

I am in Sussex and have never seen a JC NCV over here yet (apart from my one!).

Yeah, they are super rare over here. VW Camper Sales in Burgess Hill were getting one in as PX on a new Westfalia, but it never seemed to show up. If you want one, it's going to be a case of heading to Germany and picking one up and then importing to England. If you can, find one with Xenon's as the lights convert to RHD with a flick of a switch. Also, over ten years old is dead easy to register with DVLA as you don't need to mess about with any modifications other than the rear fog light to pass the MOT. If it's less than ten years old you will have a bit more hassle with speedometer and getting it registered. Just keep your eyes open on mobile.de or autoscout for vans.

I looked at a few in Germany. Plenty of high mileage vans out there, but be prepared to pay dearly for a lower mileage one with good vehicle spec. A lot are auto transmission, so that's easier to deal with. Rust seems to be the main issue so get a clean one that hasn't been left to rot.

On 27th Feb, afternoon, I crossed a James Cook (model before 2007) registered in UK on the parking of the ferry in Calais. I came out the ferry from Dover.

If it isn't you, Godfather, then you know there is a second owner in UK

I haven't seen any in the UK since the one at Camper Sales in Horsham sold a month or so ago. They could have sold that one many times over so someone must have beaten you to it as it hasn't been around for long. Other than that, it's a personal import from Germany. Only a few decent examples for sale at the moment on mobile.de and Angelo from Rome had seen a few of the rotten ones listed and run away very quickly. What's your budget? I think you will need around 45 grand to get a sensible one.

Hi! I've just managed to buy an 81 james cook in the UK!! there's an issue with the electrics and really weird gas setup(underslung fixed propane tank on the outside that i can't work out how to fill). If you've got the pdf manual available still fleep, I would be over the moon!

Hi fleep I recently became the proud owner of a 2006 James Cook. It was imported from new with a UK spec LHD with MPH clocks currently 53k miles. Been struggling with the manual using google translate but it’s not ideal. Would your PDF cover my van?
