Oil Consumption 2008 3 litre V6 engine type 642

Our 2008 JC is a 3 litre V6 turbo with 120,000 kms on the odometer.

It looks to me that we are using about 1 litre of oil per 5,000 kms.

Does this seem excessive or normal? I see that the Mercedes manual states it may even be as high as 1 litre per 1,000 kms!!

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian

Good morning!
We rarely need to fill any additional oil between the annual (or slightly more) oil changes.
End of summer greetings
Stefan

Hi Stefan. So how many kms would that be for you in the year? Thanks,

Ian

OK, thanks.

If anyone else would like to let me know their approximate oil consumption, that would be great!

Just checking to see if mine is out of line.

Ian

Using 1 litre of oil per 5,000 km on the 3.0 V6 (OM642) is actually quite normal, especially with that mileage. Mercedes does specify up to 1 litre per 1,000 km as acceptable, mainly as a ""worst case."" As long as you don’t notice blue smoke, leaks, or other symptoms, there’s probably no cause for concern.
