Draining the hot water from boiler for winter

I have drained all 3 mains taps under the bench seat. I opened the taps as I was draining to make sure the water could escape. Fresh water tank is empty.

Does the water that is in the boiler drain when you drain the "hot water" drain, or is that just the water in the pipes?

I ask as I cleaned the tanks with solution, drained all tanks and refilled to flush one more time. When I turned on the taps to hot, hot water still came out.

There must still be hot water in the boiler - how can I drain it?

Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian,
You did the draining the right way.
Only, while the 3 drain taps under the backseat are open, you have to open the taps (in kitchen; badroom and evt. outside shower at backdoor) completely on warm and cold to drain the pipes and boiler. You will hear air going thru the taps.
If no air can come in from the top of the system the boiler and pipes will get a «vacuum» and not drain properly.

Good luck!

Hans

as Hans said....
Additionally I need to open the lid of the waterinlet to empty the main tank in a fast way. Otherwise it pulls itself into a vacuum or takes forever to empty!

All great advice. I had forgotten about the outside shower being open!

Thanks for the help.
