Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Greetings from the U.K. I have recently bought a Sherpas Translift for the Cook. I am now searching for a pair of Zolzer J bars from anyone who is prepared to send to the U.K. ( obviously I pay carriage etc). Thanks
Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Hi Adrian,
if you can't find used bars you can purchase them new:
https://www.zoelzer.de/de/ovalbuegel-seitlich.html
Shipping is 30,- EUR - so it takes 131,- EUR total, a lot of money for those simple aluminium bars...
To get DIY bars can't be very difficult - if you take a simple profile and cut it yourself. The ends don't need these caps like Zölzer - simply cut a hole in there like Eckla does:
https://www.eckla.de/dachtraegerzubehoer.html
You only have to find the right quality of aluminium - it is very soft and can be deformed fitting to the cayak.
Good luck,
Carsten

Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Thank you Carsten. I have been coming to a similar conclusion! I have a blacksmith nearby, so the plan is to buy some 30mm wide aluminium flat bar ( I haven’t yet figured out the thickness) and ask them to bend it for me to my dimensions using their bending tools. Then fix it in the way you suggest. Thanks. Adrian
Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
I have them but I always wonder why they need to be rounded. If I would have the choice again I would simply use rectangular angles which allow you to mount a board way closer to the car. maybe different if you need them for a kayak and not a surfboard.
Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Thanks for this. My use is neither surfboard nor kayak but a long canvas bag containing a Quest pop up gazebo. I am particularly keen to have the bag as close to the van as possible. That is particularly because , as you know, we drive in the left in the U.K. So with Zolzer sticking out too far there is a danger of them catching in tree branches. So I’m still thinking how best to do it. Thanks
Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Why don't you mount the sherpa on the right side? That should be also possible if you have a T1N.
Re: Wanted: Zolzer bars for Sherpas Translift
Yes. I have a set of brackets (from the forum ) which will enable the Translift to clear the awning when it slides down. So I will try that. Thanks.
