power socket / steckdosen
power socket / steckdosen
there are apparently 3 Steckdosen iny JC (though I have only found one so far)
should they have power if I am not connected to "shower power" ?
so if I am sitting independent should they be "live" with electricity?
I tried to use a multi meter to test for voltage the other day but
looking at the holes in the socket they appear to be covered over.
the manual describes this as a safety feature to protect children.
I could not get my multi meter.probe to insert (easily. and I don't like forcing anything)
if I just insert a standard 2-prong EU plug should that move the covers out of the way?
or does it need a 3 prong plug, with a ground prong?

Re: power socket / steckdosen
In Germany, such child safety locks are standard for 230V sockets. They fold away when pressure is applied when plugging in.
The sockets only supply 230V if you are connected to an external power supply (via the external plug near the left rear wheel).

Re: power socket / steckdosen
helpful.
thank you
though I wonder what will happen if I connect that outside plug to the 110V power supply we have here
even if it does not charge my 12v auxiliary battery (it has been said that I need to replace the 220v - 12v charger with a 120v - 12v charger) would i get 110v at the sockets, or 110v on one prong if the sockets?

Re: power socket / steckdosen
Hello,
Yes, you have to replace the 220Vac/12Vdc charger.
When rhe charger in JC of mine was broken I replaced it for a charger Blue smart charger the brand Victron and it fits easily on the same place
In your case for instance : Victron energy Blue Smart IP65 Charger 12/15(1) 120V sold by Volts.ca.
Or better if you like the type 12V/25A.
Greetings, Gert

Re: power socket / steckdosen

Matthias

I'll pull it out and open it up and have a look.

Um Deine erste Frage klar zu beantworten:
Nein

Re: power socket / steckdosen
I am not very capable with electricity and I cannot read wiring diagrams very well. (But I am fearless and intrepid. though as we say in English: "a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing". I'll be careful.)
but I imagine a very most basic view of the internal auxiliary electrical system might look like my attached drawing.
so my question is, are the internal sockets connected like B (i.e. through the 12v charger) or as in A - directly from the external power source.
if A then if I connect 115v to the external socket, I am wondering if I will get 115v at the internal sockets?
though I might have to rewire them or replace them with North American sockets.....

Re: power socket / steckdosen
Matthias

Re: power socket / steckdosen
The older chargers are 230v only, newer ones are 110v/230v.
I was lucky to buy a charger from 2016 Westfalia Nugget and this is what I have now in my van, works with both voltages. Fraron makes now plug and play replacement for the old charger.
