water system mystery

another failure during our brief (2 night) test trip this week was the water system
it was working fine for the first day (when the water tank was full)
THen, on Day 2, there was no water from either the bathroom or kitchen tap.
checking the water level it was at about half. but the pump head was still submerged.
thinking there might be a break in the tube above the pump head, which was exposed to air, I filled the water tank again.
but the water still did not flow.

we have now be back at Home Base for.... 3 days.
and this morning, as I was getting ready to test the electrical system feeding the pump, I just randomly tried the taps again and.... they worked.
I didn't change anything since the last time they did not work, 3 days ago.

Why?

I am now lowering the water level to half again so that I can test that "break in the line" question.

when I drained the freshwater tank to 3/4s the taps kept working
when I drained it to half the taps failed (to draw water) even though the the top of pump head is still about 3cm below the water level

I will now refill the tank and see if the water comes back on.

any ideas?

Hello pjstock,

I had a similar issue in the past. In my case it was air in the tube.
I could solve this by grabbing the pump and shaking it. Other users use their mouth and suck on a water tap...also a possible solution but probably the less hygienic one .

For me, both worked out. Try it with a running pump and in my case I could also hear new water flowing through the pump.
I hope this one works out for you as well.

When you're driving probably and the tank is not that full probably the pump is not in the water in a curve or something like that. Then air gets in the tube and you need to do the described procedure.

There are also pumps with an automatic elimination of air...maybe you can try one if this is your issue.
