Hi JC Lovers
I bought my James Cook 2004 in 2008 and it was not until last year that I discovered it has two eberspacher heaters! One is for the main motorhome area and one is for the front cab. When I tried to use the front cab heater it did not work, maybe from lack of use.
Does anyone here have a front cab eberspacher heater and do you use it?
Google Translate:

Michael

Re: 2 x Eberspachers?
Hi Michael,
yes, I do have two heater units in my 2005 JC, but I would not know by heart if the one in the front is also an Eberspacher.
Anyway, the one in front in my car is actually not only a heater for the cabin, but it will heat the water in the engine as well.
This unit is called "Zuheizer" and it is part of the normal Mercedes Benz Sprinter optional configuration (so it is nothing special for the JC).
In my JC I do have a control panel in the lower middle console. Usually it will display the time of the day. There are four buttons beneath the display that allow for programming up to three start dates (weekday & time). The second one from the left (three red curly lines) will start the heater immediately, it will run for pre-set 40 minutes, counting down the minutes in the display.
There is not "power" or "heat" control: the unit will run up to maximum power and stay at that level until the pre-set time has elapsed. (We use this in winter when camping to support the motor-home heating to get to the temperature we would like to have. With both heatings it takes rather 5 than 10 minutes to get the room to comfortable 19°C - even if the temperature level was at freezing 0°C).
However according to the Sprinter manual (that I do not have here at my computer now) I recall that there are at least two different control units offered - depending on the type of heater build in. The other control has some kind of heat sensor and a dial to set temperature.
So if you have any trouble with the heater in the front, I guess Mercedes Benz partner will be well able to maintain and repair the unit. As usual it will be just come down to a question of money ...
Cheers, Enno

I have a button across the middle of the round control for aircon and I did not know what it was for. When I looked it up in the MB manual it said for eberspacher heater. I found the heater unit in the front of the engine compartment, drivers side.
Thanks E2nO, for the explanation.
Mine is a simpler version with just the one button, On/Off, but as I said, it does not work and as I do not need it I will not have it repaired!
There must be many variations of the James Cook with different options; engine size, aircon, colour, JC windows, fuel tank size, etc. (but no upholstery options). Were they all pre-ordered?

khn hat geschrieben:Dear Michael,
the "Zusatzheizer" only woks at temperatures lower 10 or 7 (?) degrees celsius. When the outside temperature is higher, the heater won't start.
When it's cold in winter, the "Zuheizer" brings the engine temperature faster in comfortable conditions.
It's an additional heater to increase motor temperature faster, so the heating system of the car will work after a few minutes.
Best regards
Kalle
Thanks Kalle, that is interesting. Maybe mine does work after all! But I will have to wait for some really cold weather before I can try it out - and we don't often go out in cold weather
