on board charger and battery type.

Seasons greetings fellow JC owners!
I have a problem
I have just had my on board Westfalia charger repaired, its never worked since I purchased the van.
The van has solar panels so I have just relied on these.
The van has one very large AGM type battery.
The engineer who repaired the charger says the charger is only designed for wet acid batteries not gel or AGM batteries.
Is this correct?
I was under the impression the vans originally came with two exide 85ah gel batteries.
Am I going to break the charger again or will the battery expire or due to the solar charger will all be OK?
I'm very confused!
Thanks for reading
Jason!

Many thanks Linus, my poor German reading skills still lead me to believe its OK for gel and AGM!
Thank you for your assistance
I'm truly grateful!
