Wasser dringt ein Water ingress

Hi JC friends,

I have a water ingress located above the passenger door.
Under the black plastic cover, everything seems ok.
The only potential way in I observe is the seal ( red ellipse ).
In emergency, before the next rain, I lay a new seal. But I don't believe there is the cause.

Do you have any experience or idea ?

I was always wondering if that line is a seal or just decoration, it looks like there is no gap underneath. I would say it is more likely the main seal between car and roof. I once also had lots of condensed water collected in the nose under the bed which at some point found its way into the cabin. A broken front window seal can also cause water issues in the cabin, but I guess not without driving (water is pushed up). Good luck.

It seems this line is seal. In my case some little black particles jump out of the seal. I believe the roof is made by two different parts; if not, they can't pull it out of the mould.

As you observe, the glue in the upper corner of the front window seems to be missing but it is just the same on the right corner .

The seal between Mercedes and Westfalia , protected by the black cover seems to be in good condition.

And a second question : how to clean this ugly stain ?

Fair point with the two parts, was just wondering because it looks like one piece from the inside. Mine is also in bad conditon at the front and with every cleaning it gets worse. I once talked with our JC expert Manfred Ermel about my water issue and he said the most likely position where water comes in is through the seal behind the cover in the front.

it is why I remove the front black cover; but the seal seems not damaged at this location.
When the weather will be sunny, I'll check in detail and report you.
I buy on Amazon Sika 521UV.

I just renew using Sikaflex 521 UV.
perfect.

I observe the same as Spacy: the seal is very in poor condition.

Thanks, did you use more than 1 cartridge? How long did it take?

hi rainerd,

because of the rain, I pnly renew 1 long side; my cartridge seems to be more than half full.

I feel all the van requires 2 cartridges.

Highly recommended to clean the sika ; works well better than others brands ( Wurth ) , very soft; not abrasive. Note : all what touch Sika is black and gluant; use gloves and wipes.




nota : 1 cartridge of Sika 521 UV is enough to refurbish the upper seal but it is really short.

it is not fixed...

This week end, with very hard rain and wind I observe a small leakage.
Once at home, I did a lot of test with pressurised water.
The leak is around the small windows of the bedroom.
Once fixed, I will let informed.
I'm waiting for a new rubber seal and for a week end ...without rain. I feel we are in november , here in Belgium.

After a while not using it, I had again lots of water coming down in the cabin from the sunshields. Thought this is condensed water but went to the Truck wash today and same issue afterwards. A lot water in the nose of the roof but hard to recognize where it is coming from. Sealing of the roof looks OK, the smaller one in the middle of the roof looks bad, could it come from there to that point?

Hi Rainerd,


In my case, I feel the water is due to the rusted screw on the right of the picture.
Because of the oxydation, I never can unscrew.



I cover the suspicious way of the water with duct tape during 1 month ; it was successfull



I remove duct tape and replace by a seal of Sikaflex 521 UV

It is now 3 months I did it and do not observe any water ingresses...




I cleaned with very good result ( 80% ) the fabric above the left door using den Braven Cleaning Wipes see above
