How to replace hot water boiler

Ich bin sicher wenn Du den ganzen Schmutz und die toten Insekten, die Du auch in Deinem Boiler finden wirst entfernt hast, wird Dein Boiler wieder gut funktionieren.

Zum Ausbau muss der Badspiegel raus, drei Schrauben des unteren Haltewinkels des Spiegels vom Kleiderschrank aus lösen. Zwei der drei Schrauben die den Boiler halten sind vom Kleiderschrank aus zu lösen, die dritte vom Kofferraum aus.

Wenn Sie den Kessel nicht selbst ausbauen und reinigen können, helfen Ihnen die besten Installateure von kanalreinigung in schaffhausen gerne weiter, sie erledigen alles auf höchstem Niveau.

Guten Tag. Ich stimme Ihnen vollkommen zu, dass Sie sich nicht beeilen sollten, einen neuen Kessel zu kaufen. Ich hatte einmal eine Situation: Der Kessel ging ständig ohne Grund aus, mein Bruder bestand darauf, einen neuen zu kaufen. Ich entschied mich trotzdem, es zu entfernen, schraubte den Deckel ab, ich war schockiert, es gab eine große Menge Schmutz, der den normalen Betrieb des Kessels störte. Nach der Reinigung funktionierte der Kessel so gut wie möglich.

I really didn’t want to buy a replacement boiler. However I removed and took the old one apart. It was super clean inside - no bugs etc. Then refitted and still red light after 30 seconds. Then put the spare regulator on and checked gas pressure. All good but still red light. So it could be flame detector or solenoid or burner or PCB! The problem is that once I start replacing those piecemeal I soon could exceed the cost of a new boiler(£400) ! As the boiler has been an issue since I bought the Cook in 2016 I decided to replace it. I have now installed a Truma GE gas and electric. I have tested it on electric ( 850w or 1300w) and it quickly heats the water either from a mains electricity supply or from my inverter. I have not yet been able to test it on gas because the Cook is at the gas fitter for a gas test( mandatory here). I will report back once I have tested it together with some notes and photos on installation. Thank you. Adrian

Well, the boiler is installed and seems to be working as it should both on gas and electric. We are off on a trip tomorrow so will test it out and report back in a week or so with some photos and tips for the installation. One question though? When I was installing it I wondered if the Cook had a non return valve on the cold feed from the water tank? Any idea? Thanks Adrian.

Mine actually has one. It is placed in the fresh water tank directly after the pump.

We are now back from a short trip and the new boiler worked well- both on gas and electric. Huge improvement to have a boiler that works properly. I replaced the old Truma B10 with a Truma Rapid GE. It is almost the same dimensions and is secured in the same way as the B10. The only issues are as follows:
1 I rarely use the 240v socket in the ceiling by the wardrobe. So I removed that. The GE 240v controller is an identical size. So I placed it there next to the gas controller. I then used the existing 240v cable to connect to the boiler( already fused). There is easy access for the cables by removing the metal cover behind the small drop down cupboard the ceiling. 2. The GE has push fit water fittings whereas thw B10 uses jubilee clips to secure the pipes to the boiler spigots. So when ordering the GE order it with water fittings that have spigots to take 10mm water pipes rather than order to take 12mm John Guest fittings.

3. The GE hot water fitting also has a venting nozzle that has to be connected to 8mm internal plastic pipe that goes to the underneath of the van. This caused me a lot of thought. In the end there is an easy solution. I bought 4m of 11mm ext plastic pipe ( 8 mm internal) and clipped one end to the water fitting vent nozzle. I then routed it between the boiler cupboard wall and the outside wall of the van at about a 45 degree angle. It will then easily emerge at the top of the trunk. I then drilled a 12mm hole in the metal support between the wardrobe and exterior wall and another 12 mm hole in the floor of the trunk. I used pipe clips to secure. As a bonus I was also able to use this route to get a cable to the outside from a battery operated inside/ outside temp gauge. See photos below of the pipe work.

4. Finally, and maddeningly, the gas intake pipe on the GE is in a slightly different place so that a new longer 90degree pipe is needed. See photo below of new pipe in place and old pipe alongside. However a local gas fitter took only 10 mins to make up a new piece of pipe and connect it and then did the necessary gas test. So that turned out not too difficult.

There is a new aluminium exhaust plate with the kit and that will take the existing cowl and cover ( which is what I did).

Finally, there is what I think is a design shortcoming in the new controllers. They do not have a green light when on but only a red light if a fault. My solution won’t suit everyone. I never use the on/off switch next to the bathroom door as I have led lighting with a switch on my maxxfan. So I repurposed that wardrobe switch and connected it to a tiny green led which I mounted next to the ceiling controllers. So when I use either the gas or electric controllers I also use the switch by the wardrobe to give me a visual reminder that the boiler is on. See photo.
