correcting this faucet

Everyday is an adventure with a James Cook!!
and I learn something every day.

I got the entire cabinet out (by unscrewing the small screws Left and Right along the bar in the base and then the nut up higher on the right)

I've now removed the faucet.
and it looks like there's line, that was leaking was not correctly installed in this faucet. it appears to not have been inserted all the way in and then pinned in places.

how does this work? do I just push (or pull) this yellow fixing pin Out and then reinsert it to hold the barbed connector in place?

or do I leave it in place and just push harder on the barbed red connector to force it past the yellow pin (that seems like a bad idea)

this seems obvious but I am always careful yanking in something I am.unfamiliar with, in case it should not move

Yes.
as simple as knocking the yellow pin out from the small end and reinserting after the red connector was correctly seated.

Genauso ist es richtig.
Wenn Du einen Wasserhahn mit Brauseschlauch hast werden durch so einen Stift (der ist dann aus Stahl) alle 3 Leitungen in Position gehalten.
Sollte sich im Winter noch ein Wassertropfen dort verstecken wird die betreffende Leitung durch den Frost dann herausgedrückt.

Ist zumindest bei mir so passiert.
